The assembly will have to be disassembled for lubrication?!? Failures here we come...

Disassembeld for lubrication at 25,000 miles!
If I take a machine that far down, it is going to get new bearings. Cheapest part of the job. I am really having trouble seeing a benefit here. I think I can see more predictable preload and increased rigidity in the new one, but damned if I see a reason not to lube it. I run some motors at work on sealed bearing, 10-15 years, almost never off. They work fine, until they don't, then they slide downhill fast. Those are 1785 RPM and the grease in there is active, plus there is a reservoir of grease outside that allows some oil to seep into the bearing. All requiring motion and some heat. This though, baffles me.

The other thread mentions sealed bearings.
Can't lube those, or shielded w shield in, via zerk, you would just push the seal or shield into the rollers. I have a rather expensive oops in my desk, the shield is perfectly hydraulically formed to the rollers, which locks them, which destroys the bearing. I will say that I cannot think of n effective and safe way to relube any double shielded, much less sealed, bearing. So yeah, new at 25k

The City of Pittsburgh Police department practically revolted when the city replaced their sidecars with Voyager trike kits for winter use a few years ago. This is not going to go over well. They carried all their stuff in the sidecar.

Let's face it, H-D is looking ahead, most of us are the age where we're done buying new bikes, they have to build stuff that has appeal to younger riders. Nostalgia ain't gonna go very far with guys who are tech savvy and want new stuff on a bike, like good sound, Bluetooth capable, water cooling, etc. Companies either give their customers a good product, or they wither and die...

Yearly disassembly? That sucks!

Geez.
What's the bill gonna be for a bearing refresh on a '14 bagger? Think of all the stuff that's gotta come off just to get to those bearings. Best not drop that fancy radio during disassembly.......

Sealed bearings means less garage at home guys tear into it... like me.
I do just about everything, but I've never had the neck bearings out. Greased them, adjusted them... but never removed them. I was thinking hard about a '14 for K ren.... Now I'm really gonna have to think again....

There are good deals for the '13's right now.
They also changed the way you get to the bearings, which makes it easier.

My 05 Low Rider didn't have a zerk fitting in the neck. Had to disassemble and repack the neck bearings (I cleaned and checked the bearings and races first)...PITA! I can hear the H-D exec's in the meeting now..."we will increase our parts business and secure more labor for our dealers."

The stiffer trees and larger fork tubes should pay huge dividends in ride and handling. It's a shame that they can't be retrofitted. But disassembly every 25k is a non-starter for me. That's a yearly service, and it can't be cheap.
