El Diablo 300 Ct. and Cigar Oasis XL
As some know I bought a new humidor. It's the El Diablo 300 ct one from Cigars International.
It has the "sure-seal" badge on it and sealed tight even when bone dry. I wanted something to humidify this monster and not spend a fortune doing so. For my smaller humidors, the Boveda packs work perfectly. They keep a stable RH and need no maintenance at all. However, to get a similar ratio of space to packs in this bad boy would cost a fortune every couple of months, so I needed something different. I am lazy, so it had to be very little or no maintenance. I researched the different electronic humidors out there, and decided that the Cigar Oasis XL Plus is what I wanted. Yeah it's for large humidors, but I didn't think oversizing would be an issue, it would just run less. There are many choices, most more expensive, but this seems to be the best bang for the buck. So I order it along with a Joe's Daily Deal and get CI Free Shipping (did this on the humidor too - great deal), and then wait. In the mean time I bought 7 Boveda 84% and scattered them throughout the humidor to season it. So the Oasis arrives and I was really disappointed. It was the XL. not the XL plus. I went back and checked my order and sure enough I ordered the wrong one. DAMMIT! After debating whether or not to send it back and get the other I decided to try it out. It comes with a power supply and a very thin ribbon cable. The cable is so thin it should not affect the seal any, if at all. It comes with a water cartridge, which separates from the top part which contains the fan. The fan should be really good in a big humidor to keep the air moving and distribute the humidity throughout. So, I took out the Boveda packs after 10 days of seasoning and put in the Oasis. Setup was easy. Attach the water cartridge, slide the ribbon cable through the gap between the lid and the body, plug it in. There is no on-off switch, but there are buttons on the top you can use to adjust the amount of humidity to your liking, and also used to calibrate the unit. It takes up about the same amount of room as 10 cigars. Not bad. when I plugged it in I was a little surprised at how loud it was. Still not bad, because it shouldn't run all the time. replaced the top tray, and closed the lid. It ran for about 5 minutes straight, then stopped. After that it would cycle on and off, with the time between cycles increasing each time. Eventually, it settled down. It was quiet enough through the night that Kat didn't even notice it. (I keep my humi's in the bedroom) I'm going to let it stabilize for a few days before I put some cigars in it. I'll keep you all posted on the progress.

OMG!, you're allowed to keep more than your sox and undies in the bedroom?
I'm lucky to have a place to sit my glasses.

This is relevant to my interests.
Could you take a couple of pictures of the Oasis inside of the humi?

Haven't seen one of those in person. Can the side we can't see be put up against the side of the humidor, or does it suck and/or blow on that side, too?

I read somewhere (no idea if the guy is a physicist with a PhD or a moron) that they work best when you have one passive humidifier (gel or whatever) in the box, too. I would assume that the passive device should NOT be oversized.

Cool, thanks Dan. Now will you stock cigars in the bay that's holding the humidifier, or does it need that space?

It doesn't need all that space. I'm probably going to cut that wall down a little and move it closer. I'll leave that part of the humi for the machine.
For now....... Sent from my Star Trek communicator

I think I may have over seasoned a little. It's at 75%. I'll leave it open for a little while

Just a thought, but I've been thinking about this for awhile now, have you considered running 67-68% and seeing how well it maintains that, so if it does go a bit over the target you don't have soaked cigars?
