|
CD/DVD ROM drive is drivin' me nuts
Bought some software (Microsoft Office Home and Student, and Photoshop Elements 6), but can't get them installed.
The drive just ain't a workin' right. Audio CD's are "seen," lists the tracks, album art, composer, etc. but doesn't play. Been on line with HP twice now, downloaded a firmware fix the first time, and deleted some filters this mornin'.... still no worky...  Just had to vent

Have you tried ....right click my computer, choose explore....right click on the drive that the cd is in....choose explore and run the setup file from there by double clicking the icon?

Yeah, tried that - on the software disks it just hangs up even before listing the file names.

When I choose a title from an Audio CD, it just errors out... like it can't read the disk, even though it's listed all the disk information

Tried a laser lens cleaner, same thing, it can see the tracks, but can't "play" them....

Laser is probably misaligned. Buy a new CDRom, they are cheap. Only 3 cables going to it inside the puter.

The HP DVD drives are crap. I had similar problems with my HP computer. They sent me 2 replacements which worked fine for a while, but then crapped out again. Go to Best Buy and get a new (non-HP) one.
