R.I.P. My Union Brother...
hate when something avoidable like this happens...
i did Crane Training at Pittsburgh...and this was a classic case of not following procedures... both the Crane Operator & the Rigger(Phil) were at fault... the Diesetting Crew just stacked a die that was taken out of production...probly 50 to 75 thousand pounds...after they unhooked the slings the craneman dragged them off the die...the loop catching on something, pivoting the die, and crushing Phils chest area between another die... Phils fault was that he turned his back and was walking away... the cranemen did a few things wrong...didnt make sure everyone was out of the area b4 he moved the crane...and then dragging the slings across the die...and apparently wasnt watching IMO... http://www.woio.com/story/18888012/gm

Taught Lifting & Rigging safety calsses when I worked for a sling mfg./distributor. I would teach a class at a plant and be back there a week later and see major safety infractions.
Prayers for the rigger and his family.

Sorry man.
We are HUGE on load safety. I was shooting thermals as a 13000# door was raised, I was 1/4" from dangeer and had 3 people watching to keep me safe. You can never relax around this stuff. Peace and love to your friends family ________43>41>7_________
