got the call this morning. the diagnosis is a porus jug. the parts will be in thursday, and i should have it back by saturday or sunday. thanks for all the help and insight. the SM said that the MoCo has had a few of these happen, but it's the first that they'd seen at the dealer. he actually thanked me for bringing this problem to them.

generally we setup in the first row or two of the pits next to the right lane stands. The white trailer will have Engines by Otto on it and the bike looks exactly like the one in my sig below. Last fall there was a helluva party there! should be fun, see you there!
