There might be a better way: Over on the other site, there's a guy advertising in the classifieds the following: User name is Flyinggascan

1. Twin cam cases with 4 5/8" stroker crank, timken. $1100
2. Axtell 4 1/8" cylinders with reverse domed pistions $650
3. Stage 5 R&R heads $900
4. HPI 55 mm throttle body $700

plus shipping.

he's also got a borzilla exhaust listed too.

much cheaper than starting from scratch.

Then we'll be able to walk out to the garage and look at the real thing.

Barring a major catastrophe, this bike is staying with me. I WILL NOT get a bagger at any point for long trips, but the 'FXR4' will remain, ergo any money I spend on it is amortized over the next 4-5 years or so.............

and if I'm REAL LUCKY ..... 10-15

GIDDY UP !!!!!!!!!!!
Trust me, a used bagger will be a concession to Dana, not for me, as I have no issue riding 400+ miles (so far) a day on my no-windshield Night Train.

Cheers my friend, may we take a long trip together on our obsolete bikes!

I have a dream...I would like to find an Electra Glide of maybe early 90s vintage with a blown motor. Put an S&S 113", Jim's six speed, Barnett clutch, and a few other minor goodies on it and have a slightly beat up road eater. Not much on looks, but goes down the pike with the best of them. Wouldn't handle as good as the new ones, though.

The dream has a snag; if I bring a another bike project home I'm sure my wife will abruptly leave while uttering "idiot" and "money pit" in loud and angry tones.

But then I could name the bike "Pandora's Box".

HA! That's why I'm sticking with one bike....

I wonder if I can sell air suspension as being easier for her to get on......

Ya it sure does. But there are some people who have spent tons.

was talking to a guy wit some bikes. Says the S&S evo blows the HD away. But I don't know if its street legal. So may not be apples and apples.

Also keep in mind when going monster big, you probably got to update other weak links on the bike.

Come back and talk to me, when you want to put some real miles on.

I don't know your story, but if your gonna bet money, on who rides more, bet on the guy with a bagger. Longer and worse weather, which equates to riding more.

Of course a guy with a Cadillac is going to drive more than the guy with the Jeep.

But I know which one I'd rather drive......

"Not street legal" only applies if someone is going to check the bike over. as long as you have a bill of sale for the engine you are ok. They could make you put the old engine back in, but I don't think so.........

Why would someone want to check the bike out, anyway?

I think the issue with "street legal" is if there's ever a repair order written (like for louder than allowed pipes). Here in Maryland, those inspections are done by the state police, and they technically could make an issue of it.

Of course, it'd also be an issue anywhere that a smog check is done.

I'd be willing to bet she could probably use them both in the same sentence.
