MOCO Consistency

Well, I see the automatic air filter oiling system is working just fine on my new one.

Of course nothings been changed to remedy it, so I should expect it.

Parks closed. Moose out front should have told you.

Have a nice day!

Looks like the sending unit.

msocko3 has failed to amuse us
I've pretty much lost faith in the MoCo and quality. Since my dad has bought his 09 Triglide in November 08 he has put about 22,000 miles on it. In the 22,000 miles he has had the rear O2 sensor fail, the trunk leaked like a sieve for the 1st year of ownership due to the MoCo inability to get the seal right. The starter button failed twice which causes the starter to stay engaged each time, he just had the front wheel bearings replaced. He had an oil leak at the oil cooler adapter which required the adapter to be replaced. My 2010 which has 16,000 and change on it has had the starter button fail which kept the starter engaged, the trunk has leaked on a couple occasions. I have to believe purchasing parts from the cheapest supplier will bite them in the back side sooner or later.

Other than eating Stators, the only other problem I had that I didn't cause was a primary cover gasket leak the first year. I'm still running all the original sensors after 128k miles. Maybe I should just keep it and stop dreaming of a CVO.

I have a good friend in Colorado that was having the misting problem. Here is his report:

Quote:
Got a call from the Harley dealer yesterday...When it started out with "John, has anyone taken this engine down?" I knew it wasn't going to be pretty. Remember, it's an 11 with 8400 miles. I've put all but 4 miles on it since January.

Turns out some of my problems stem from the fact that the forward piston was missing the top ring, and the rear cylinder head had a gasket from a 96 cu. in. engine. Not to mention the collection of sealant in the crankcase. They replaced the front piston, and kind folks that they are they included all of the rings this time, honed the cylinder, etc, and of course, replaced the head gasket on the rear cylinder. This was after they cleaned out the excess sealant in the crankcase. The sealant, in their experience, was directly related to the oil misting out the air cleaner.

They discovered this because the mechanic that was doing the oil change noticed the oil was draining far too slowly. This dealer had seen this before in the 103 engine, and the reason behind it was excess sealant in the crankcase. Good on the mechanic!!! I'd bet most would never pay a bit of attention to this.
