I think from a structural standpoint it is super interesting to watch the suspension structure flex and react. That bridge is amazingly flexible AND strong. May be the Hefty bag of small bridges.

We may hear more from this. The bridge has a maximum load rating of 20,000 lbs. That bus is closer to 20 Tons total weight. I would imagine charges may be forthcoming, and any potential damage that can be determined may result in significant fines against the company, and they could potentially be liable for repairs to the structure.
I wonder if the Jeep crossed after them?

The original link is to a report discussing the closure and subsequent inspection. Apparently they determined that no damage had actually occurred. The implication is that (assuming the inspection was very thorough) the safety factor of the design is something like 4:1. I’m impressed by the visible contortion

Wow, when I was there in 08 the water was just bout touching the bridge. so I never saw any vehicles driving over it. A few of us walked on it part way but that was it. Good to see the old girl is still standing.
