That's the easy part. The real fun starts when you try to put it back together right.

for the install, actually the tear down too....

to remove the base rocker box on the rear cylinder, you have to leave in the two long bolts on the left side. Well, you have to un bolt them, but you can't get them out casue there's not enough clearance to the backbone.

After everything else is un bolted, you can lift and rotate the rocker box and slip it out on the right side.

It's important to remember this at install time ... I don't think that I want to get my box installed, on the new gaskets and THEN realize that you can't get those bolts in there.... but then through the rocker box first, then install the box

Did you get the new type of gasket? It's one piece instead of two seperate pieces.

here's some of the things that I learned today

For the FXR you have to lower the engine in the frame to get the rear rocker boxes off. When you do this the engine does not protrude below the frame, so you can put your bike back up on the motorcycle jack for the rest of the teardown, and re-build.

When taking the rocker arms out, have that cylinder at TDC. Un bolt the bolt closest to the push rods (all the way) then you can drift the rocker shaft out of the arm. It is VERY easy to drift out. I used a wooden dowel and light taps pushed it out.

I had developed a 'naming scheme' before I started.
I wrote labels (sharpie) on baggies and put the parts in the baggies.

This is especially true of some parts that need to go back into their original position, as they 'marry' up with the other parts. I kept the bolts, shafts and arms of the rocker arms together as 'sets'. I even labeled the bolts and which locations they came from.

I'm sure there was more, but I can't think of it right now
