Mine does the same thing passing 5800 rpms in 3rd gear or above. Docent seem to do it in first or second but it's only there for a split second. I just figured it's tired valve springs. When Dave does the top end the baisly heads should fix that.

I don't think I got even close to 5800 rpm. We'll see, maybe I have a broken or weak valve spring?

Do a compression test first, Skip. Easy to do; and will confirm that all the important parts (expensive) are working o.k.

Next, think about the fuel line in the gas tank. Yours has the old kind that rubs inside the tank and gets pinholes; reducing fuel pressure to the injectors. (assuming fuel injection). Those fuel lines need replacement anyway, after about 35 to 40 K miles. Check the two-conductor wiring to the injectors themselves. The older models (than yours) had a problem that the injector wires would fray and cause the injectors to not deliver fuel to the throttle body.

After that, and especially if the compression is good, might only be a failing sensor.

I checked for codes this evening and there were none noted. I'll look to the fuel delivery items that you mentioned. A fellow employee is bringing me a compression guage tomorrow.

I know for certain that my rear cylinder head gasket is blown. I took it the stealership for warranty repair. I'll know more sometime this week.

I'd say pull both heads, have 'em put in .030 head gaskets, raise the CR a smidge. Higher CR equals more power.

But I won't.......
