Engine knock

I ride with the Twin Scan 88 gizmo connected to the ECM. I've looked at some of the captured data and noticed that about 1 to 2 times every 15 minutes or so, the knock retard is kicking in. The timing is being retarded typically by 2 degrees, though it hit 4.5 degree one time. I have a SERT, so I can (and have) adjusted ignition timing. My question...Is occasional knock retarding by 2 to 4 degrees normal and okay, or is it a terrible thing to avoid under any and all circumstances? TIA.

Avoiding it is best, that's why the MoCo put the knock sensors on them. I blame the EPA.

The Sert manual says a couple of degrees is nothing to worry about but if I saw 4 degrees I think I would start backing off a tad there, and Woody, dont even get me started on the Amish, I blame them for everything and if there are any of you Amish reading this, wtf are you doing on a computer?

I had forgotten how much was written about knock retard in the SERT manual. I did a quick review and I will study more. But holy cow, they show knock retard happening for higher degrees and longer duration than I'm seeing. What they show as examples typical of what might happening as your tune whould scare the crap out of me! Mine isn't too bad apparently. I'll keep reading. Thanks guys.
